What is Metaphoric Visualization? (and why it works!)

Your brain responds to imagery almost as powerfully as it does to real-life experiences. By giving your stress or stuck energy a shape, color, or texture and then transforming it, you help your body release tension and rewire how you carry that feeling.


When to use this tool:

  • When emotions feel murky, heavy, or overwhelming

  • If you feel stuck in mental loops

  • Before bed or after a hard conversation

  • Anytime you want to shift energy without overthinking


How to do it:

  • When you’re feeling a difficult or unwanted feeling, notice where it exists in your body and what it feels like.

  • In your mind’s eye, visualize the feeling in detail. If this feeling had a color, shape, texture, temperature, etc… what would it be like?

  • Imagine altering your visualization in a way that feels satisfying — soften it, shrink it, lighten the color, dissolve it entirely…

  • Notice the change in your body and your emotions.


Pro tip:

There’s no wrong answer here. The weirder or more playful your imagery, the better it works. Trust your brain’s creativity! Your mind is powerful — you can reshape your inner world anytime.
