Zoom Out
Hey friend ๐ Sometimes we get tunnel vision โ literally and figuratively โ when stress takes over. This simple reset helps you soften your eyes, expand your awareness, and tell your nervous system: weโre safe, no need to brace.
Can I really calm myself down using just my eyes?
Yes! When weโre anxious, our vision narrows, putting the body into fight-or-flight mode. Expanding your gaze into peripheral vision signals safety to your brain, helping your whole system downshift into calm and openness.
When to use this tool:
When your body feels stiff or heavy
Before bed to help unwind
During moments of anxiety or overwhelm
Anytime you want to reconnect with yourself
How to do it:
Looking straight ahead, begin to widen your perspective, taking in more of your peripheral vision.
Allow your focus to soften and your vision to go blurry.
Notice the back side of your body. Become aware of the space around and behind you.
Pro tip:
Go do this practice outside if you can! Wide open spaces, as well as the sights & sounds of nature, have been shown to lower our heart rate and help us feel safe. Your world is bigger than the stress in front of you โ you can choose softness and space anytime.
